Linseed oil - the natural gold of the VIVAMAYR kitchen

The effect of linseed oil on our body is amazing. The omega-3 fatty acids it contains have anti-inflammatory properties and strengthen the immune system, among other things. These fatty acids are real heroes for our health. This is why linseed oil is an integral part of the VIVAMAYR cuisine and is used by us every day. Also in our cooking courses, the linseed oil is presented again and again.

Source of health

Linseed oil is a true all-rounder. It can be added to any meal.

Moreover, linseed oil is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, especially alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that the body cannot produce on its own and, therefore, must be obtained through the diet. They play a crucial role in regulating inflammation in the body and contribute to heart health.

Linseed oil also contains a variety of antioxidants that can help reduce cell damage and strengthen the immune system. Not only is linseed oil essential for the body, but it is also indispensable for our brain cells and, consequently, our memory.

The valuable components in linseed oil can have numerous other positive effects on the body. For example, it can help lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can provide relief in conditions such as arthritis or inflammatory bowel diseases. Additionally, linseed oil can support digestion and promote gut health.

By the way: Linseed oil is extracted from the mature seeds of the Linseed plant.

The manufacture - natural and high quality

We obtain our high-quality linseed oil from one of our renowned Austrian partner companies. For many years, we have maintained a close partnership with this traditional family business.

The linseed oil is obtained according to a special manufacturing process in the proven stamp press. In this process, the linseeds are gently crushed and then carefully heated. Skillful timing ensures that the precious oil is pressed from the seeds, preserving all the valuable ingredients.

The gentle manufacturing process is of great importance as it ensures that the linseed oil retains its exceptional quality. The valuable natural ingredients, such as essential fatty acids, fatty compounds and vitamins, as well as the characteristic fragrance, taste and the wonderful golden color of the oil are preserved by this process.

In order to preserve the high-quality ingredients in the best possible way during cooking, it is recommended to heat the linseed oil only slightly. Slight heating, however, unfolds the valuable aroma of the oil and adds a special note to the dishes.

Thanks to the long-standing and good partnership between the VIVAMAYR and our oil mill, we can offer our guests an incomparable taste experience. We are proud to use this unique oil in our dishes and to continue the high quality of the linseed oil tradition.

Linseed oil as a fixed component of the VIVAMAYR cuisine

At VIVAMAYR Maria Wörth we strive to serve our guests individual and gentle meals. The food we use is specially selected and sourced from regional suppliers. Every day we use oils as flavor donors and carriers. Because our body can only produce high-quality fats and oils itself in very small quantities, the intake of these as part of our diet is an essential health factor.

Linseed oil finds its way into our kitchen on a daily basis and the positive properties it brings with it make it a true superfood. It is used to refine cold and hot dishes. Its taste convinces every palate, its combinability every cook – like for example as a refinement for white vegetables or as a topping for a vitalizing porridge. Since it is a cold-pressed oil, it is recommended to add it to meals before serving, if possible.

The linseed oil we source at VIVAMAYR meets our quality standards and is produced using a particularly gentle process. It is our pleasure to serve this high quality linseed oil to our guests.

About the VIVAMAYR linseed oil

A composition: refined with linseed oil and ready for great pleasure

We love linseed oil to refine any dishes. It gives them a wonderful nutty flavor and is especially delicious in creamy soups. One of our favorite recipes is a delicious broccoli cream soup combined with a few drops of flax oil:

You need:
2 medium floury potatoes
Rock salt
2 bay leaves
1 broccoli
nutmeg
200 g wild broccoli
50 g fresh basil
Sesame clover
hyssop
approx. 100 ml cream or 4 tablespoons olive oil (for the vegan version)
4 tablespoons linseed oil

Preparation

Peel the potatoes and cut them into small pieces. These are then put into a large pot with about 1 liter of water together with some rock salt and the bay leaves. The potatoes must then cook on medium heat for about 30 minutes until they are soft.
While the potatoes are boiling, the broccoli florets are separated from the stem. After that, the broccoli stalk must be peeled and cut into small pieces. Together with the potatoes, the broccoli stalk is then cooked. Meanwhile, the wild broccoli is prepared by cooking it in a steamer or strainer until al dente.

Next, the broccoli florets are cut up for the last 5 minutes also added to the potatoes.
The bay leaves are removed and the potatoes and broccoli are pureed together with the cooking water, fresh basil, a pinch of nutmeg, a bit of watercress and hyssop with a hand blender to make a creamy soup.

Last but not least, the pre-cooked wild broccoli is cut into bite-sized pieces and added to the soup.
The soup is served in a bowl and can then be drizzled generously with linseed oil.

Enjoy this delicious soup with linseed oil as an appetizer or as a main course. The linseed oil adds a special touch to the soup and rounds out the flavor perfectly. Enjoy your meal!

Our Tip:

Linseed oil is also the perfect companion to potatoes and meat dishes and harmonizes particularly well with all white or pale vegetables such as kohlrabi, celeriac, cauliflower, parsnips and parsley roots.
Get into the habit of using as few fats and oils as possible in the cooking process and instead round off your dishes with various cold-pressed oils, such as linseed oil.
